hello guys! in this video i'm gonna show you how to makegemstones out of plastic bottles. so it's basically a literal trash to treasureproject and it's really simple to make. you could use the gems for costumes, jewelry,cards, decoration or whatever you want. so without further ado, let's get started! what you're gonna need of course is a plasticbottle. you can use any size and colour as long asit has a basic flower shaped bottom part like this one. the bigger the bottle, the bigger the gemstonewill be, like you see in this picture.
then you're gonna need something to paintthe gems, like nail polish, metallic markers or acrylic paint.. some scissors, and i also recommend nail scissors.. some thin cardboard, preferably in a colour that will match yourgemstone.. and some regular glue. okay so the first thing you're gonna do isto cut off the foot of the bottle. and it actually already has an oval shape,so you just need to cut around that.. ..until you get something that looks likethis. it should look oval from above, but flat fromall sides. now let's give the gemstone some colour! the easiest way in my opinion is to paintit from the inside like i'm doing here.
but sometimes the plastic has scratches, inwhich case it's better to paint it from the outside. to do that, i put some adhesive putty on apencil and put the plastic on top so i could easily colour it. then i just put it aside to dry. after two coats of nail polish it looks likethis. but the gem is still hollow and kind of hardto use, so we are gonna fill it! take a piece of cardboard - mine is from arandom box - and cut out a piece that fits into the gem.
you could also use a piece of plastic insteadto make the gem more durable. the white edges don't look that nice, so icoloured them purple. but this is optional. lastly you just take a tiny bit of newspaper,roll it into a ball.. ..then, you glue it into the gem.. glue thecardboard onto it.. and now you can easily glue the gem to any surface. here is what i made with the gemstones. so i hope you liked this tutorial and gotinspired to upcycle some plastic bottles. and if you want to see more stuff like this,please like, comment or subscribe, or do all
